A Cling Wrap Manicure

The cling wrap nail is surprisingly easy to do and when executed correctly gives your nails a lovely marbled effect. I’ve still got a bit of practice till I get there, but now that I know how easy it is I won’t hesitate to give it another try.

What you’ll need:

  • Cling Wrap
  • Nail polish in two different colours¬†– I used Cheeky Chops and Jaffa from Butter London
  • Top Coat
  • Nail polish remover & cotton tips to clean up any mess made from the cling wrap.

Before you do anything, cut up some little squares of cling wrap and set them aside like this:

Helpful hint: it’s also good to have a rubbish bin or plastic bag handy for the used cling wrap that is covered in nail polish.

Then paint your nails with 1-2 coats of your first colour and wait until it is completely dry, and I do mean completely dry. I already had the Jaffa on my nails from the day before, so mine were just about as dry as they were ever going to get.

Next paint over your nails with a coat of your second colour:

While the second colour is still wet grab one of the squares of cling wrap that you cut up earlier and dab it over the wet polish.

Continue the process on each nail until you have done your whole hand. You will most likely end up with a little nail polish transfer from the cling wrap onto the skin around your nails, so just grab a cotton tip, dip it in some nail polish remover and clean up any mess.

Finish with a top coat and voila.

I want to experiment a bit more with this and perfect the technique. I only scrunched my cling wrap up a little bit, so I would like to see how this comes out with more tightly scrunched cling wrap.

What do you think, yay or nay on the cling wrap nail?
