Tom Ford Nail Lacquer in Silver Smoke is an elegantly sophisticated shade of nail polish that is very much in keeping with the overall feel of the newest Tom Ford collection.
In the bottle, this nail lacquer looks not-quite silver and not-quite gold, with a touch of pewter thrown in for good measure. On the nails this effect is amplified, depending on the lighting conditions.
Silver Smoke can be worn with one, two or even three coats, depending on the look you want to achieve.
After one coat, Silver Smoke acts as a luminescent top-coat. I found no streakiness at all, just a pretty, subtle shimmer across my nails.
After two coats, Silver Smoke appears almost opaque. In the right light I still experienced a little bit of VNL (visible nail line) but nothing to write home about.
After three coats, Silver Smoke is fully opaque, taking on an almost liquid metal appearance. All nail swatches shown above were taken with three coats.
Ease of application:
I adore the brush in this polish. Although it is a fairly thin, round brush, the bristles have the perfect mix of stiffness and malleability for me to fan them out slightly against the edge of the bottle to achieve a smooth, streak-free application.
This has got to be one of the longest wearing polishes I have tried. I applied it without a base-coat or top coat, and it lasted on me for 5 days. Considering that most other polishes normally chip on me on day 2, this is almost miraculous.
I have also found that the complexity of this shade has made me want to reapply it. I generally change-up my manicure every 2 days or so, but I’ve been wearing Silver Smoke for over a week. I’m really appreciating the subtleties of this relatively neutral and sedate nail lacquer.
Like all his products, Tom Ford’s Nail Lacquers are packaged in a way that just makes them feel expensive. This nail lacquer is encased in a solid, heavy-bottomed glass jar with a brand-consistent brown and gold cap.
I really like the practicality of the square bottles, I can see myself amassing quite a collection of these polishes, and I just know they will sit perfectly in place in my helmer drawers.
