Today I wanted to share with a quick and easy NOTD that is super fun to wear; Neon Tips. It’s exactly the same process as French Tips but instead of using white polish I’m using a bright neon orange from the new Crazy in Love Spring collection from Hello Darling, and to mix it up, I drew a second line of silver using a Manicare Glamnails Nail Art Pen.
1. Apply a base coat to your nails.
2. Once the base coat has dried apply neon polish to the tips of the nails.
Please note: I personally like to do my Tips freehand, which means that the edges are a little bit softer and have far more imperfections (probably says something about my personality). If you prefer to have a straighter line, you can place a strip of sticky tape over the nail, leaving the tip exposed, paint the tip and then peel off the sticky tape.
3. Once the tips are completely dry, use a nail art pen to draw a thinner line behind the neon tips. I used the Manicare Glamnails Nail Art Pen in Metallic Silver. The first time I used the Nail Art Pen it took a REALLY long time to get it working. The instructions on the packet advise you to shake the pen, with the lid on and then press down on the tip of the pen to release the colour. I did this. Multiple times. Eventually I deemed it too hard and handed it over to my fiancee, a move I’ve made with many a tight jar lid. He struggled with it for a further 5 minutes before getting it to work… Don’t ask me how; he’s like a magician at getting things to work. I was expecting it to draw on a lot thicker but it is a little bit like trying to draw on your nails with a silver sharpie; it almost doesn’t want to adhere to the surface of the nail.
Alternatively for step 3 you can place a piece of sticky tape across the nail, leaving a small gap between the neon tips and the rest of the nail and fill in the line with a silver polish. Peel off the sticky tape once finished.
4. Finish up with a layer of topcoat.
Simple but effective!
