Welcome to a brand new series here on Makeup Utopia – each week I’ll be interviewing a Beauty Blogger I adore, and picking their brains for the best in beauty. This week I’d like to introduce you to a dear friend, and one of the most inspirational women I know – Christina Butcher, the hair behind Hair Romance.
Tell me a bit about your blog?
“Hi, I’m Christina. I’m the hair behind Hair Romance. I met my husband and my hairdresser in the same street, and that’s where my hair romance began. I started Hair Romance to help women to have fun with their hair – after all you wear it every day! Being voted in the Kidspot Top 5 Style & Beauty Bloggers and named as Problogger’s Top 15 Bloggers to Watch in 2013 inspires me to do even more. I want to help you rediscover your best accessory with Hair Romance, where I post daily news to bring you hair-spiration and to help you love your hair! I’m not a hairdresser – even though I can turn any conversation around to hair. If I can do all the styles on my site in my own hair, I know you can too! I believe if you love your hair, you’ll never have a bad hair day again.
Since starting Hair Romance I’ve also started Nail Romance, a little sister beauty site to Hair Romance that’s all about nails. I also blog about everything else (mainly travel & food) at Mr & Mrs Romance with my husband Jim.
What is your favourite budget makeup brand? What is your favourite product from that brand?
I love the L’oreal shine caresse lip glosses. I don’t usually wear a lot of gloss but these are so long wearing. I’m also a fan of the L’oreal BB & CC creams for my everyday makeup.
What is your favourite luxe makeup brand? What is your favourite product from that brand?
I love the Tom Ford range, partly for the packaging and also for the formulas. I wish I owned the entire range. The powder is divine but I love the lipstick in Wild Ginger.
What is your favourite indie makeup brand? What is your favourite product from that brand?
I have to confess I haven’t tried many indie brands. Does Lord & Berry count? If so, I have one of their lipliners that I love, and from what I’ve seen of the range it’s all good.
What’s your makeup crack? Are you a lipstick lover, a blush junkie, a mascara maven, or is it another product that floats your boat?
Total lipstick junkie. I used to be nervous of bright lips but now the brighter the better! I have at least 5 lip products in my handbag at any one time.
So, be honest, how many lipsticks do you own?
Ooh that would be a scary count! Maybe 100? I probably have more nail polish but I don’t like to count them either.
Tell me your best makeup secret, tip or trick.
Primer is key, especially eye shadow primer (I love Urban Decay) to getting your makeup to last. Hiding blemishes is important for me so finding a good concealer is a must. I love Laura Mercier secret camouflage. If you’re short on time and have only a minute, a little pink blush and pink lip gloss will make you look younger and fresher. Also, don’t neglect your eyebrows. Shaping your brows will change your face, and I always fill mine in with a fine brush and a little bobbi brown eyeshadow.
Everyone has a dirty beauty confession – what’s yours?
I secretly paint over my old nail polish without removing the previous colour. I often touch up my nails as I’m running out the door and I just do an extra coat or paint a new colour over the top. You have to be careful to not paint too thick a coat, but you’d be surprised how quick it is and how long it lasts
