Today on M|U loves, I’ll be introducing you to an Aussie blogger who was a fairly recent discovery for me. She focusses on reviewing affordable, accessible brands, and creating really lovely makeup looks using those products. Plus, she’s a redhead, and I have quite a soft spot for a ginger (not that I’m biased or anything!). Go check out Gidget Cooper – I hope you fall in love with her as quickly as I did!
Tell me a bit about your blog?
Right now it’s very much Beauty Central. With Reviews, Tutorials and Swatches. When I first delved into the online Beauty Bloggers World I saw a helpful community. A family. One I wanted to participate in. If other blogs helped me find great products and save money, then I wanted to do the same for others.
What is your favourite budget makeup brand? What is your favourite product from that brand?
Essence. I’m completely Obsessed with that brand. It’s just so deliciously cheap. My favourite product would be the Match 2 Cover Concealer. The lightest shade suites my pale skin tone rather well and while the darker colour does not match skin tone it does make a great cream contour. No product wasted. I just wished they had more than one colour range.
What is your favourite luxe makeup brand? What is your favourite product from that brand?
I don’t own a huge amount from Luxe brands. I can’t really afford to right now but I do own a few Chanel Polishes. The shade Peridot is such a beautiful duochrome golden olive green. The bottle sits on my night stand. It’s gorgeous to look at, even in the bottle!
What is your favourite indie makeup brand? What is your favourite product from that brand?
My favourite Indie Brand would be Meow cosmetics. Meow Cosmetics is a brand that focuses on Natural Mineral Makeup. It’s hard not to go overboard shopping from them with $1 samples. I particularly like their Mineral Foundation. You have over 86 shades to choose from, Over 7 colour depths and 3 coverage choices!
What’s your makeup crack? Are you a lipstick lover, a blush junkie, a mascara maven, or is it another product that floats your boat?
My makeup CRACK would be aubergine coloured eyeshadows. I’m so sad Winter is over here. It’s the perfect Winter/Autumn shade. Red based plummy colours are fantastic shades to make green eyes stand out.
So, be honest, how many aubergine eyeshadows do you own?
Too much. A man would say it’s the same colour. Why are you buying so many versions of it? But he’s wrong. There are so many undertones. Some have glitter or duochrome and Some are bright or dark. My favourites would be Mac’s eyeshadow in Cranberry, Inglot’s single eyeshadow in 607 and Maybelline’s Colour Tattoo in Pomegranate Punk.
Tell me your best makeup secret, tip or trick.
Knowing your Face. Knowing what shape suites your eye. Do you need blush or not? I’m rather fair skinned but I have quite rosy cheeks so I can skip blush most days, however my eyelashes are quite translucent so I always give them a quick coat of mascara. You don’t need to pile makeup on your face. Knowing what you need and what you can skip would be my number one tip.
Everyone has a dirty beauty confession – what’s yours?
I don’t wash my brushes as often as they need it. I’m quite lazy in that department. I’m also guilty of using hair spray to set my face or eyebrows. I’m forever misplacing my setting sprays and eyebrow gels, that and bobbi pins!
