Makeup Utopia 2013 Bushfire Campaign
To my beautiful Makeup Utopia readers in Australia and overseas,
You may or may not be aware that I am lucky enough to live in the beautiful Blue Mountains, and I am even luckier to have been unscathed by the horrific bushfires currently burning in the Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury areas. Many of my fellow Blue Mountains residents were not so lucky, and have lost homes, animals and all their worldly possessions.
On Thursday and Friday the 17th and 18th of October 2013, 198 homes were destroyed, and another 108 were damaged by the devastating bushfires in Springwood/Winmalee/Yellow Rock. For many residents, this happened during the work and school day, and they were unable to get home to collect even the most basic necessities, let alone their most treasured possessions.
I am currently liaising with a number of beauty brands who are kindly donating supplies that I will be delivering to various evacuation centres for distribution to displaced families. I’ll be updating this list periodically as more brands come on-board. The brands that have committed to providing products for displaced families are:
- Face of Australia
- White Glo
- Bio Oil
- McPhersons International
- Procter & Gamble
- Hairhouse Warehouse
- ELES Cosmetics
- L’Oreal Paris
- Lush Australia
I would like to extend the most heartfelt thank you possible to these wonderful brands – the donations they are making will be appreciated more than they can fathom.
I would also like to thank the following brands, who have advised me that they are already distributing products to the affected areas:
If you represent a brand that would like to get involved, please contact me at [email protected] If you represent a brand or know someone who represents a brand that makes nappies, maternity clothing/underwear, tampons/sanitary pads or cot sheets, please consider getting involved. These items are all desperately needed.
If you are an individual who would like to help, cash donations are the most useful at this time. I recommend donating through The Salvation Army, who have a dedicated Bushfire Appeal. If you donate to The Salvos at your local Woolworths or Safeway store, Woolies/Safeway will match your donation, dollar for dollar.
