Lizzi’s Makeup Basics – Lip Liner

Do I really need to line my lips? Isn’t that just something ‘they’ say you should do?

I always felt that way, until I hit my mid twenties and my perfect red lippie started to crawl eerily up my face….OH DEAR LORD? Fine lines? Noooo, why meeee…….

In traditional Lizzi style I set to prove this by taking some rather un-flattering pictures of myself. I applied lip-liner to one side of my mouth, and left the other side liner-free. I then applied lipstick as per usual.

Initial application- not too bad, looks like I might earn my Scout badge in lipstick after all (I wish that existed)

The lip lined side is the left of the picture.  Already I think it looks better.

Cut straight to the 30 mins picture….why 30mins? Well, why not, I got bored of not talking/singing/drinking my tea, its sitting right there…why did I come up with this idea and then make tea?

It’s difficult to make out, but you’ll have to trust me, there is definite bleeding around my lip-line. Horrible little lines…

And the side with lip-liner…

Lovely, clean and crisp; Ok, so in my pictures it is not as obvious as it is in real life, and remember, to take these pictures, I wasn’t talking, drinking or even smiling, so the lipstick stayed in place pretty well. If you actually move your lips you would probably find the differences to be much more extreme.

So back to my original question…

Do I really need to line my lips?

Well, no, not if you are going for a zombie/extra in a ‘Thriller’ remake, you don’t, for the rest of us? Yes, it is probably for the best.

Also worth mentioning that I’ve noticed if the creepy little lines take a hold, they stain….and they stain good…or bad….depending on your opinion.  So to prevent day 2 creepy lippie cracks? Line those lips.  Also, the more bold a colour, the more important lining is in my book, whether its red or black or bright Smurf blue, it’s more important to line, than for nudes (mostly because nudes do the same but are less obvious because of the shade)

Lip lining? Where’s your line, always, sometimes, only when using dark/bright colours?
