Product Breakdown:
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Star Wonder is a limited edition product, and part of the “Heavenly Creatures” collection, recently released by MAC. This particular Mineralize Skinfinish (MSF) is a rose-gold base with a thick vein of plum, and a smaller vein of coral winding through it. When swirled together, it translates as a plummy-rose colour with a strong golden shimmer though it.
Like all MSF’s, Star Wonder is ultra shimmery, and as a baked mineral product, it’s safe to be used wet or dry, without fear of sealing your product.
Pigmentation:
Star Wonder gives a reasonable colour payoff. It blends out nicely, and is capable of giving a sheer result, but can also easily be built up for a much brighter face.
Swatched heavily on the left, blended out on the right.
Finger swatches L-R: Star Wonder; Stereo Rose; Petticoat
I only own 2 other MSF’s, however they are both well known. In a heavy finger swatch, Star Wonder appears to be a clean yellow based pink, Stereo Rose looks like a straight up peach, and Petticoat is similar in intensity to Star Wonder, but has a much more blue/mauve undertone.
Ease of application:
Star Wonder is very easy to apply, however it would recommend using a smaller brush than usual if possible. Due to the highly shimmery finish, MSF’s are best used as a highlighter, or in the case of all three that I own, a highlighting blush. Keep your MSF’s to the tops of your cheeks for a beautifully reflective glow, and if you keep the application controlled, you won’t end up looking like a glitter ball.
I also recommend buffing MSF’s into your skin, rather than just dusting them on top. I find this helps to remove any excess glitter, and keep the skin looking metallic rather than disco-ball.
Longevity:
Star Wonder lasted on me all day, with no noticeable fading. I found that if I failed to buff it in properly, I had glitter over my whole face by the end of the day, but the colour was still going strong after 8 hours.

Summary : My Verdict: A lovely shimmery blush that when used with a light hand can work on pale skins, but really comes into it's own on darker skintones.
