M.A.C Key Artists report top trends from MBFWA 2012

After Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia, I had the opportunity to interview 3 Key Artists – Nicole T from Australia, Amber D from New Zealand, and James M who looks after the Asia Pacific region. Here are their top takeaways from MBFWA.

James M:

I loved the look at Bec and Bridge, the girls looked really expensive and glossed from head to toe. There’s something really beautiful about a bronze/copper eye and Dewy skin, classic but still really cool.

2. What was the stand-out product for you at MBFWA?

For me it’s a mix of cream colour base, I used Pearl, Luna and Hush on the cheekbones and body to enhance the bone structure. Creamy textures look beautiful under show lights and give the skin a mannequin shine finish.

3. What do you think will be the biggest beauty trend to come out of MBFWA?

One of the biggest trends for me was the idea of total skin perfection. Making sure that the body is as polished as the face. I used face and body mixed with strobe cream backstage to get an ultra perfect high gloss finish to the body.

I can’t go past Romance was Born!
Such an amazing show to be a part of! I love this show as I have got to know Anna and Luke and understand their vision – they are just amazing! Natasha Severino created (once again) an eye catching look make-up look, but also Alan White was behind the explosive orange do’s that tied the whole thing together! POW!

2.What was the stand-out product for you at MBFWA?

I have 2 products that I pulled out for nearly every show!

1. Fix Plus Spray …

This hydrating aqua mist is the secret ingredient for glowing skin, and the week was all about skin that had some life to it – and sometimes an extreme shine! At Bec and Bridge to have the girls looking as though they had just emerged from the Mediterranean we were soaking them in Fix. Even adding a fresh layer JUST as they took the catwalk!

2. Cream Colour Bases … (Hush, Pearl and Luna)

As mentioned, the skin this week was not matte, it was creamy and highlighted. For a Polished point of light on the skin, these cream colour bases are a must have in my kit.

3.What do you think will be the biggest beauty trend to come out of MBFWA?

Brows! I found that the brows were definitely not forgotten this week. The shape is strong in structure, with a feathery boyish application – but the colour is not dark. Very achievable.
Try using a brow pencil in your hair colour, and then a pencil one shade lighter to create a full feathery brow! (I suggest) Brow Pencil in Fling and Lingering.

It’s always hard to pick one but I’d have to say the simplicity of the makeup at the AJE show that I directed.  Bringing out the best in the already stunning girls and not over doing it.  Letting the amazing MAC skincare like Strobe Liquid and Prep & Prime Moisture Infusion do the hard work for us!

2. What was the stand-out product for you at MBFWA?

Definitely the new MAC Prep & Prime Moisture Infusion – I have been using it before foundation and also pressed onto the skin at the end of the makeup process so that the models skin looks super lush and plump.

3. What do you think will be the biggest beauty trend to come out of MBFWA?

Glossy refined makeup – the MAC teams really showed why we are the backstage leaders with this – being able to create skin that looks so super clean, minimal and fresh with attention to detail and achieving perfection. It really is an art! Pairing a key statement alongside this fresh skin keeps the makeup looking on trend and a natural evolution of trend  – whether it’s an electric lip or a glossed eyelid.

There you have it – the top makeup trends from MBFWA from the people who know. It seems like it’s going to be all about glossy, glowing skin for SS12/13!
