MAC Dark Angel Nail Lacquer – Review, Photos, Swatches

Product Breakdown:

M.A.C’s first permanent nail polish collection delivers in 31 colours and 3 finishes. Go dark and cool with Deep Sea and Nocturnelle. Dark Angel and Formidable! are a sultry complement to the poppy-inspired shades of Fiestaware and Morange. Sreaming Bright and Discotheque go big with glitter, and sutry┬áSoiree charms with champagne shimmer. Keep it nice and neutral with Skin and Faint of Heart. From trendy to timeless, scorching to sweet, there’s a shade for every mood.

MAC Dark Angel Nail Lacquer is a stunning deep eggplant colour – a rich purple with red undertones. It’s exactly the colour I have been feeling like wearing in this current freezing weather.

It has good pigmentation, applying a little patchy on the first coat, but becoming a smooth, solid colour on the second coat.

Ease of application:

The formula of Dark Angel is very easy to apply. It’s thick enough to be satisfyingly (is that even a word?) opaque, and thin enough to coat the nail easily. I also found it to self-level very well.

This is where this nail polish really did surprise me – I have not had significant experience with MAC polishes, but I have heard from virtually every reliable source that their polishes are prone to chip almost immediately. I applied Dark Angel with very low expectations, but it wore on me like a champion.

Having said that, I absolutely acknowledge that everyones nails react differently to different polish formulas, and I do believe that the base and top coat have a lot to do with the longevity of a polish, but still – this lasted better on my nails than any of my OPI, China Glaze or Essie polishes.

Dark Angel is packaged in the same packaging that I have come to expect from MAC nail lacquers.

I can appreciate the addition of the rubberised lid – I imagine the theory is that a rubberised lid is easier to grasp. Personally I would prefer a design like Chanel has, where the bulky lid can be removed to reveal a slimmer, easier to hold handle.

The brush is nothing special, just a standard round nail polish brush.

Anything else worth mentioning?:

Dark Angel has a GLOSSY finish. As in, I didn’t need to apply a top coat to get the level of shine visible in the pictures. This is a base coat, 2 coats of Dark Angel, and that’s it.
