About a month ago, I was pleasantly surprised by a surprise parcel from L’Oreal Paris. It contained a massive selection of products as used on the runways at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) by key makeup artist, Rae Morris. Among other things, it contained a selection of lipsticks from the L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Made-For-Me Lipstick Range.
These lipsticks are designed to be worn by women of a certain colouring, with select colours within the range recommended to be worn by Blondes, Light Brunettes, Brunettes and Dark Skintone (information on this is a little sketchy, but as far as I can tell, redheads are not represented.)
I was sent 5 of these lipsticks – 2 for Blondes, 1 for Light Brunettes and 2 for Brunettes.
The Swatches:
Blondes:
235 – Nude
Nude is from the Color Riche Made-For-Me Naturals collection.
Nude is a lovely sheer neutral lipstick that, in real life, is a perfect MLBB (my lips but better) shade. At first glance it appears to be a cream finish, however I think it has an almost imperceptible frost to it. This serves nothing more than to maintain a glossy looking finish, and I didn’t find it to age the appearance of my lips.
290 – Plum Passion
Plum Passion is from the Color Riche Made-For-Me Intense collection.
Plum Passion is a deep, rich berry with a hint of red wine. The colour is absolutely stunning, but I would personally have preferred it if it was a cream finish. It’s packed with silver glitter, giving it a slightly gritty texture, and if you look closely at the swatch above, you can see the glitter on my lips.
Light Brunettes:
379 Sensual Rose
Sensual Rose is from the Color Riche Made-For-Me Naturals collection.
Sensual Rose is a somewhat sheer, soft rosy pink with a strong gold duochrome. This duochrome effect gives it a very frosty finish, which is not especially flattering on older lips, as it can emphasise any fine lines. Having said that, I’m a sucker for duochrome anything, so despite having a slightly retro vibe, I’m a big fan of this lipstick shade.
Brunettes:
378 Velvet Rose
Velvet Rose is part of the Color Riche Made-For-Me Naturals collection.
Velvet Rose is a straight-up cream (my preferred finish), in a perfect ballerina neutral pink. Although recommended for Brunettes, I imagine that this colour would be flattering on most skintones. It is sheer enough to apply on the go, it is pink enough to look polished, and neutral enough to look professional.
288 – Intense Fuchsia
Intense Fuchsia is part of the Color Riche Made-For-Me Intense collection.
Intense Fuchsia is named very appropriately, as it perfectly describes the colour. A deep, vibrant pink, it contains a small amount of glitter, but I didn’t find it to be uncomfortable or gritty feeling.
Packaging:
The Color Riche lipsticks are packaged in a very luxe-feeling gold case that belies their drugstore status. Although not truly hefty, they contain a nice weight, and the lid closes with a satisfying click.
Pigmentation:
The pigmentation of each range seems appropriate to the collection. The “Natural” lipsticks are semi-sheer, where the “Intense” lipsticks are nicely pigmented.
Texture:
These lipsticks apply with a nice “slip”, although they aren’t overly soft. This allows them to glide smoothly and easily onto my lips, while still being able to create neat, crisp lines around my liplines.
Fragrance:
The L’Oreal Color Riche lipsticks are quite strongly fragranced, and it would really be my biggest criticism of them. They have a heady, floral smell, with an accompanying taste. If you are bothered by artificially fragranced lipsticks, these probably aren’t for you. If fragrances don’t bother you, definitely go an check them out.
Longevity:
Worn on their own, these lipsticks wore for around 4-5 hours on me without eating. I would recommend applying a base of lipliner underneath the more intense shades to prevent bleeding and increase wear time.
RRP:
$25.95 AUD; $8.95 USD; 8.19 GBP

Summary : These lipsticks are formulated beautifully, with an easy to use formula, and ideal pigmentation. They are let down only by their smell, which is quite strong and overpowering.
Makeup Utopia The perfect destination for lovers of makeup

Velvet Rose and Nude are my picks. I swear I’m getting more and more dull with my lipstick choices; nothing but naturals and sheer pinks seem to float my boat lately.
Where’s my colour collection, that’s what I want to know. Where’s the collection for people with icecream hair!
