Lancome Color Design Palette in 308 Violet Magnetique – Review, Photos, Swatches

The pigmentation of the shadows in this palette was quite varied.

When I touched my finger to each of the shades in the palette, the pigmentation appeared to be fantastic, and the texture was soft and creamy.

All-over base – a perfect match for my skin tone with a pearly sheen.

Highlighter – a cool white-based silver.

Crease – a stunning violet with a very subtle blue duochrome effect.

Lid – a very glittery neutral rose pink.

Liner – Navy blue with rose glitter.

When the colours were swatched onto my hand (dry), they looked very sheer. The soft texture doesn’t seem to be creamy enough to really “grab” the skin on application.

Ease of application:

These shadows are very easy to apply, without overdoing it, due to the sheer nature of their application. They blend together easily, but beware of over-blending, as you can blend the colour away to nothingness.

The only real negative I experienced was some fallout when applying the glittery lid colour.

I applied these eyeshadows over Urban Decay Primer Potion, and they lasted all day with only a little fading and no creasing. The glitter had definitely worn off by the end of the day.

This palette is packaged in a neat black casing with a gloss finish. The gloss show fingerprints horribly, but is incredibly easy to wipe clean. It’s a convenient travel-friendly size, being about the size of the palm of my hand.

Inside the palette are 5 eyeshadows of varying sizes, a coversheet suggesting possible uses for each shade, a sponge applicator and a large mirror.

The packaging feels sturdy and luxe, and reflects the cost of a luxury product.

Anything else worth mentioning?:

Here is the eye look I created using this palette. I followed the recommended usage for each shade in the palette.

In the above picture you can see that there is very minimal sparkle on my eye. The glitter all fell off while I was blending my crease.

In the above picture you can see the glitter. I patted LA Splash Eyeshadow Base gently over my lid and applied some more of the recommended lid colour over the top. Using this glitter adhesive I found the glitter lasted all day.

Backstage Beauty Tips

• For an optimum makeup result, use our range of eye brushes for precise application and easy blending. We recommend Angle Shadow Brush #13Large Shadow Brush #11Dual-End Liner & Shadow Brush #18, and Precision Shadow Brush #12 for the base, highlighter, lid, crease and liner applications.

• Create multiple “Midnight Rose”-inspired looks with both palettes. Use 308 Violet Magnetique for a bright, daytime eye. Create a night look by adding the liner color and intensify the taupe plum shade on the lid. Mauve Cherie is great for dramatic plum eyes with a smoky twist.
