Another Monday, another edition of “The Hit List”, our weekly feature that wraps up 5 excellent products in a given category. This week I’m potentially being a little bit mean, because I’ll be sharing my top 5 products that aren’t readily available in Australia. These are products with no legitimate Australian based distributors (to my knowledge), that generally need to be sourced from overseas.
Milani Baked Powder Blush in 05 Luminoso
Milani is an American drugstore brand that hasn’t made it to Australian shores. This modest looking baked blush is a dead-on dupe for MAC Stereo Rose (which I also own). When they are swatched side-by-side I absolutely can’t tell the difference. The wear time, texture and intensity is also identical. If you’ve been hanging to get your hands on the highly sought after limited edition Stereo Rose, try this instead.
Sleek MakeUP Eyeshadow Palette in Oh So Special
Sleek is a UK based high street brand with a webstore that ships to Australia (YAY!) The Oh So Special Palette has recently taken pride of place in my day-to-day makeup collection, replacing my formerly trusty Naked Palette. I find that the warm pink-based colours flatter my green-grey eyes, and the texure of the shadows rival many higher-end palettes. Of the 12 shadows in the palette, 7 are matte, making it more flattering for ageing eyes. The best bit about this palette? It retails for $9.99USD!
Urban Decay Naked Palette 1
I couldn’t write this article without including the now iconic original Naked Palette. This is the highest selling eyeshadow palette in history, and has inspired hundreds of other brands to create interesting neutral palettes. Urban Decay is available in the US, Europe and the UK – fortunately Beauty Bay stocks Urban Decay and ships to Australia.
Urban Decay Primer Potion
I couldn’t mention Urban Decay without mentioning my Holy Grail eyeshadow primer. I’ve tried many eyeshadow primers, but for me there is none that work better than Urban Decay Primer Potion. It creates a base on my eyelids that is sticky enough to intensify the eyeshadow I’m using, dry enough to blend easily with no patchiness, and it grabs that eyeshadow like glue, so it doesn’t budge until I remove it. UDPP is also available in Australia through Beauty Bay.
Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer
Collection (formerly Collection 2000) is another UK based high street brand that is near impossible to get in Australia. Collection Lasting Perfection concealer is probably the lest sexy thing on this “Hit List”. It’s also the thing I would save if I were in a burning building. This concealer gives medium to full coverage without being thick or cakey. It takes a few minutes to fully dry down, giving you time to work with it, but once it’s dry it absolutely doesn’t budge. Even better, it doesn’t accentuate the fine lines under my eyes. I wear shade 1 Fair, and it generally costs less than five dollars on ebay.
Do you use makeup that you just can’t get here in Australia? What’s your favourite product and where do you buy it from? Let me know in the comments.
