The Hit List – My Top 5 Department Store Products

Welcome to the first article in a new series we’re running here on Makeup Utopia – “The Hit List”. Each week a Makeup Utopia contributor (or perhaps a special guest) will be sharing with you their top 5 products in a particular category – this week I’ll be sharing the 5 department store products that are currently floating my boat.

Estee Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer

This primer is the perfect base for my winter skin – it brings life and light to my dry, dull skin while significantly increasing the wear time of my foundation. I’ve reviewed this product in depth here. This product was a gift from Estee Lauder.

MAC Face & Body Foundation

MAC Face & Body Foundation in shade N1

MAC Face & Body Foundation is a water-based foundation that dries down to a beautiful natural satin finish, and requires no setting powder for a long-wearing result. It’s also incredible value for money, at ~$60 AUD for 120ml it’s cheaper per millilitre than most drugstore foundations. I love trying new foundations, but I always come back to this one.

I cheated a little bit by including this on the list – I think it might be a pro product – but it’s most definitely worth picking up. Pro products are available in MAC Pro stores and online. I wear the shade N1, and I purchased this product myself.

Becca Beach Tint

Becca Beach Tint in Watermelon

Becca Beach Tint is a not just for days on the beach. I adore this cheek stain in winter, when my skin tends to be dull and dry. The gel formula makes this product look like a super-healthy flush on my cheeks, and the gentle pigmentation makes it hard to go overboard when applying. I have a few of these, and my favourite shade is Watermelon. I purchased this product myself.

Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes are the perfect product to achieve a very sophisticated, understated makeup look. They’re also ideal for those days that I am struggling to get out the door on time – I can apply them with my finger, and look perfectly polished. I’ve reviewed this product in depth here. These were a gift from Tom Ford Beauty.

Illamasqua Pure Pigments

I am a loose eyeshadow junkie and I love the intensity of the “Pure Pigments” by Illamasqua. I have a number of shades, and I find them all to be incredibly beautiful and complex. I find “Ore” to be a very versatile shade – it creates a beautiful ‘one-shade’ look and a gorgeous daytime-appropriate smoky eye, as well as being a lovely eyeliner when applied with a mixing medium. I purchased this product myself.
