Available in 10 colours, Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Shadows are a long-wearing eyeshadow in a cream/gel formula.

Pigmentation:

The pigmentation of these shadows is intense across the entire colour range. Of the 10 shadows, 5 are what I would describe as neutral, with the other 5 being much bolder and brighter.

The colours from top are: Too Cool, Tough as Taupe, Bold Gold, Bad to The Bronze, and Audacious Asphalt

Fierce and Tangy, Tenacious Teal, Pomegranate Punk, Edgy Emerald and Painted Purple,

Ease of application:

Maybelline recommend using your finger to apply these shadows, stating: “For best results: High impact look: Illuminate. With fingertips, sweep all over eye from inner corner and work outwards. For added drama, darken as desired.

I would agree that using your fingers yields the best results as the heat from your fingers aids in a smooth application. Personally, I’m not so keen on finger application – from a hygiene standpoint, I don’t like to stick my fingers into the pot. I found a flat synthetic brush works well, and for under the eye or to use as a liner, an angled eyeliner brush is just the ticket.

Longevity:

When I have worn these shadows alone, I’ve experienced no creasing or fading through the day.

I let them dry a little before blinking and if I’m worried I’ll set them with a powder eye shadow. Using this method they last all day on my eyes. I can’t comment on their claim to 24 hour wear-time as I don’t sleep in makeup, and the days of pulling all-nighters are firmly behind me.

Packaging:

These shadows come in a sturdy glass pot with a screw-top lid. The packaging makes them relatively makeup bag and handbag proof. The shade name is on the screw-top lid, so if you have a few of these, try not to mix your lids up!

Summary : My verdict: I'm in love with these shadows. I was initially sent one as part of an international makeup swap and after using it, I couldn't wait for them to be available here. Now that they're here, I'm doubly thrilled, because not only are they a high-performing product, but the price tag is very reasonable!
