I have to admit, Clarins is a brand that has never particularly captured my imagination. I thought of it as bland and a little dowdy. Until recently, that is.
Suddenly I seemed to be hearing great things about the brand, paired with pictures of stunningly gorgeous eyeshadow palettes and pressed powder compacts with intricate, embossed designs. Either I had misjudged Clarins for all these years, or they were pushing the envelope and upping their game with regards to branding and presentation.
I was recently offered the opportunity to actually try something from Clarins’ most recent collection, and after everything I had heard, I couldn’t say no. I was sent the Lisse Minute Gelee Cristal (Instant Smooth Crystal Lip Gel) in the shade 02 Crystal Plum.
In the tube it’s a deep wine colour that looks a little vampy, however it is very sheer when swatched or worn.
The lip gloss is fragranced, and it took me a while to identify the very familiar scent – it smells just like Ribena! I personally really enjoy the smell, and I appreciate the fact that it is entirely unflavoured.
You can see in these swatches that it imparts my lips with a healthy flush of berry-toned colour, and a hi-gloss, reflective shine.
I find it to be very comfortable to wear, with a good grip on my lips, a hydrating feel, and no real stickiness to speak of.
So, am I a Clarins convert? Not yet, but this lip gloss is very lovely, and has piqued my interest enough that I want to try more from a brand that I had previously written off as not for me.
Keen to try it? Clarins in available in Australia from Myer and David Jones for $30.00AUD, and from the Clarins Website in the US for $22.00USD
