Product Breakdown:
Pigmentation:
When a product is sold as a “High Pigment Pencil”, you have certain expectations about that product. Let me tell you right now, the BITE Beauty High Pigment Pencil does not disappoint. With a single swipe, it leaves a trail of extraordinarily opaque colour.
The top, thin line is a single swipe, the bottom, thicker line is layered 3 times.
When applied to my lips, this lip pencil offers an equally opaque and creamy finish. The colour translates as a deep fuschia, bright enough to make a statement, but deep enough to remain very wearable.
Ease of application:
BITE Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Grapevine has a very smooth and creamy texture. I found this made it extremely simple to apply, as it glided onto my lips without any pulling or dragging. My only complaint is that this same creamy texture makes it difficult to achieve very crisp, clean liplines without the aid of a lip brush. I personally counter this by using a cotton bud (q-tip for those in the US) or my finger to carefully soften the edges, leaving a softer, more “effortless” lip line.
Longevity:
I’ll be honest, this isn’t the longest-wearing lip product I have ever used. I find that I need to touch-up every 4 hours, or after eating/drinking. On the plus side, it’s extremely easy to touch up, and can be reapplied through the course of the day without balling up or starting to look patchy.
Packaging:
In keeping with their brand ethos of natural based products, rich in superfoods, and good for your lips, the BITE Beauty High Pigment Pencil arrived in a buff coloured box.
The product itself comes in the form of a minimalistic, charcoal grey, rubberised pencil. The end of the pencil is coloured to match the product in the tube (although this didn’t photograph true to colour).
The product within starts off shaped to a soft point, but as this is a wind-up product (as opposed to one you sharpen), that point doesn’t last long.
I personally love the aesthetic of this brand, however much like other products with that rubberised finish, it doesn’t take long to get grubby.
Anything else worth mentioning?:
2 things:
1. This smells AMAZING. It has a sort of candy-sweet fruity smell that reminds me of Strawberry Zappos from my childhood. The smell does stick around for a while, so if you’re especially sensitive to smells, it’s worth being aware of.
2. BITE High Pigment Pencils are sold in the US as BITE High Pigment Matte Pencils, and they are marketed in Australia as a matte product. I don’t know what they were smoking, because this is in no way, shape or form a matte lip product. It contains absolutely no shimmer or pearlescence at all, however the very creamy texture retains a satiny finish at all times.
