Becca Cosmetics- first impressions, a review and a makeover
This makeup look is a look I have been wearing a LOT lately. I’ve worn it to the wedding of one of my dearest friends, I wore it to my baby shower last weekend, and it was my go-to makeup look over the festive season. Most of the products I have used to create this look are from Becca Cosmetics, a high-end Australian brand that I have only recently discovered, and have absolutely fallen in love with.
I was recently sent a lovely care-package from Becca, containing an Eye Priming Perfector, an Ultimate Eye Colour Quad in Galactica, an Ultimate Creme Eyeliner in Renaissance and The Ultimate Mascara in Black. Prior to receiving this package, I had only ever tried their cult product Beach Tint (a cheek and lip stain). Keep reading for a brief review of each of these products, and scroll to the bottom of the page for more pictures of these products in action.
BECCA Eye Priming Perfector.
This eye primer is lightly tinted product with a creamy texture, presented in a lipgloss-style tube with a doe foot applicator. It does a great job of evening out the skin on my eyelids, and disguising veins, thanks to the concealing pigmentation. My eyes are deep-set, and I have somewhat crepey eyelids, so eyeshadows are prone to creasing on me, however when paired with this primer I have experienced NO creasing at all. This eye primer seems to perform better for my eyes than either of my 2 previous favourites, Urban Decay Primer Potion and LimeCrime Eyeshadow Helper.
BECCA Ultimate Creme Eyeliner
This cream or gel eyeliner is another surprising revelation! I typically struggle to find a gel eyeliner that does not slide around on my eyelids, but this Ultimate Cream Eyeliner from BECCA is equal to any I have tried. It has a delicious, soft, creamy texture that glides onto my lids without skipping or going “wonky”, and the lasting power is phenomenal.
RRP: $40.00 AUD
BECCA The Ultimate Mascara
This mascara has all the hallmarks of a great mascara for me. It gives my lashes great volume, length and definition, it is waterproof, so it doesn’t transfer onto my hooded eyelids (one of my pet mascara peeves), and it is a tubing formula, so it is relatively easy to remove without any tugging or scratching at my eyes. The brush itself is a traditional mascara spoolie. This formula is comparable to my all-time favourite mascara, Benefit “They’re Real” (although the brush is very different).
RRP: $45.00 AUD
BECCA Ultimate Eye Colour Quad in Galactica
If you’ve read my thoughts on the eye primer, gel eyeliner and mascara and thought that I was impressed, you’d be right. That does not even begin to describe how I feel about this unassuming little eyeshadow quad. This eyeshadow formula is beyond impressive, and I struggle to think of a makeup brand that offers an eyeshadow formula to rival BECCA.
This palette contains 2 pearlescent shades (a champagne peach and a warm chocolate brown) and 2 matte shades (a cocoa and a deep blackened brown). All 4 shadows are ridiculously pigmented – with a single swipe across the skin, their colour is true-to-pan. The texture of the pearlescent shades is very soft and creamy, however I have not experienced any fallout from them (a common problem with soft eyeshadows). The matte shades are also a deliciously smooth and creamy texture, with no grittiness or chalkiness to speak of. I have not experienced any fallout with the matte shades either.
All 4 shades are beautifully blendable, but unlike many formulas that feel similar, they do not appear to get “muddy” looking after blending.
I also really enjoy the packaging on this palette, it looks and feels very classy and premium, while being unique and easily identifiable as a BECCA product.
Here are a few more pictures of the look I have been wearing lately – I think it’s worth noting that I wore this to my baby shower which was an outdoors event, and the temperature came close to 40 degrees celcius. I was a ragged, sweaty mess, however my makeup looked as fresh at the end of the day as it did when I first applied it. There was absolutely no creasing, fading or transferring to speak of.
As well as the products mentioned above, I am wearing Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream, BECCA Beach Tint in Watermelon on my cheeks and lips, and Cailyn Gelux Eye Brow in Hazelnut on my brows.
Are you familiar with any BECCA products? I DEFINITELY need to try some more, so please feel free to leave me your product recommendations in the comments – What should I try next?
