We’re at the tail end of Winter here in Australia, and there has just been a cold snap where I live. This is really saying something, because I live in the Blue Mountains, where it’s ALWAYS cold!
Whenever there is a protracted stretch of cold weather, I start to crave clean-looking dewy skin and deep jewel tones. I wanted to share one of my go-to cold weather looks with you today.
This look is all about keeping my skin looking fresh and hydrated – no mean feat, because every winter, my skin dries up like the Sahara and gets horribly flaky – and choosing one feature to emphasise with a pop of colour.
Because my skin gets so dry in Winter, it’s very important that I prep my skin well before applying makeup. I started by double cleansing using Shu Uemura A/O Cleansing Oil, followed by Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel. I followed this with Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant to get rid of any flaky skin.
Before applying any makeup to my face, I applied 4 drops of Sukin Certified Organic Rosehip Oil to my face, before a generous amount of Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisturising Balm SPF25.
As for base makeup, I used my fingers to apply MAC Mineralize Moisture Foundation in NC15, working it into my skin, and letting it meld with the Bobbi Brown Balm. Then I went and blow-dried my hair, giving the foundation time to “cook” into my skin. I was looking a little dry under my eyes, so I used Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Undereye Primer before applying my favourite eye brightener, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser in Brightener. I used a little bit of Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in Fair to hide any redness or blemishes. I finished my base by applying a little MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Light anywhere that needed setting (under my eyes and around my nose.)
My eyebrows are a bit of a mess at the moment, so I whipped them into shape with my current favourite brow tool, Smashbox Brow Tech To Go. I used a smidgen of Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion from lashline to brow, then applied Urban Decay W.O.S Eyeshadow also from lashline to brow. I used Urban Decay Venus Eyeshadow to highlight my inner corners, and worked a little bit of Urban Decay Naked 2 Eyeshadow slightly above my crease. All three eyeshadows are from the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. I blended some Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Taupe under my eyes, using a pencil brush, and finished with a lick of Benefit They’re Real! Mascara on top and bottom lashes.
I kept my cheeks simple with the 2nd shade from the top of the Le Metier De Beaute Blush Kaleidoscope (a deep matte rose shade), applied primarily to the backs of my cheekbones and blended out well. The lips were really the feature of the look, and I used Maybelline Super Stay Lip Liner in Bordeaux, topped with L’Oreal Shine Caresse in Milady.
